Mama Bizuayehu was at Selamta from the start, helping fill the kids tummies with food made with love. She started out cooking and then became an Auntie at a Selamta home. When a new home was ready to open, she told the staff that she wanted to be a permanent Selamta Mama. She is a shy woman, who loves to cook and have guests come to visit with her family.
Tadelech came to Selamta from the southern region of Ethiopia and didn’t speak Amharic. Although it was challenging, she learned Amharic quickly and made friends with other Selamta kids easily. When Selamta youth took part in a summer circus camp, the instructor said that she was very talented at gymnastics and offered her free lessons throughout the year. Tadelech has always loved to sew, and she has finished vocational training, begun working, and moved into independence.
Ayenew is a strong young man who has a shy and unassuming smile. He is interested in scientific farming and would like to study at vocational school. He joined Selamta several years before being reunited with his younger brother Nakew, who was living in an orphanage. While before, Ayenew was more pensive and serious, since his brother arrived, he smiles often and is more lighthearted.
Masamancho is a happy young man loves to entertain. He arrived at Selamta in 2011 with Mehari and Mihiret, also from the same orphanage. He now considers them his lifelong siblings. Masamancho is always a joy to spend time with. His antics are sure to put a smile on anyone's face and he's always cracking jokes.
Mehari joined the Selamta family in 2011 with Mihiret and Masamancho. The three of them were living at an orphanage and they became like siblings. They were happy to be able to come to Selamta together to be in a permanent family. Mehari likes drawing, playing soccer, and joking around with friends.
Mehret is a fun, sociable young lady who likes doing crafts and going to school.
Milena is a reserved, but loving young lady. Although Milena's life has not always been easy, she has a quiet and peaceful demeanor. She is generous and kind, and when she smiles, it lights up the room. She wants to be a psychologist when she grows up to help people.
Nakew is Ayenew’s biological brother. He lived at an orphanage for several years before being reunited with his brother at Selamta. He was overjoyed to have a permanent family and to be with his brother again. Nakew likes playing soccer and enjoys drawing in his free time.
Tujare is a sweet girl who enjoys going to church and wants to be a minister when she grows up in order to help people. She especially likes singing when she attends church. Tujare loves spending time with volunteers and reading. Tujare loves spending time with her family, and Mama Bizuayehu is her biological aunt.
Mihiret, not to be confused with her older sister Mehret, is a darling girl who likes dancing, gymnastics, and playing games. She came to Selamta in 2011 with Masamancho and Mehari. Mihiret loves spending time with her family and focusing on her studies. Her athleticism is evident, and she loves playing on the Girls' Selamta Soccer team.
