Marisa stepped in to lead Selamta in 2014. She has been a part of the Selamta family since 2008 when she visited for the first time and fell in love with our families. Marisa served as a board member for two years prior to joining the staff. Marisa’s leadership experience was developed through her years in corporate retail management at Target Corp and Starbucks Coffee and in organizational development as Outreach and Development Director at Curtis Lake Church in Maine. Marisa and her family – husband, Aaron and kids, Lucas and Lily – now live in south-central Florida and love new adventures.

Abel joined Selamta in 2007 and in 2008 he became Selamta’s in-country Director. Abel oversees all operations in Ethiopia and manages relations between Selamta and the Ethiopian government. Abel is working towards a Masters in Developmental Psychology from Addis Ababa University. When Abel first learned about Selamta through a friend he became a volunteer because he was motivated to help children in need. Abel says, “Working at Selamta brings joy to my soul.” His joy flows out and into the lives of our families and staff.
Dureti works with our moms and children to ensure their psychosocial wellbeing. She also leads a team of Selamta staff who are integral in the holistic care of our families and individuals.
Zelalem oversees all school-related activities for our kids. He leads a team that works in the details of our program from accounting and housekeeping to transportation and education.
Betty Hailemarium Social Worker
Betty works one-on-one with our kids to see that they have the resources they need educationally and extracurricularly so they can become thriving adults with bright futures.
Lensa operates our Selamta clinic open 4 days a week to serve the immediate needs of our families. Lensa also works with our families to facilitate health and hygiene education for the overall wellness of our Selamta Family. She’s tough on germs!
Eskedar works directly with our Selamta Moms to navigate through the ups and downs of raising incredible children to become engaged young adults and productive Ethiopian citizens. Her love and grace shines through her interactions with our families.
Visiting Selamta would not be complete without meals by Messi. She is gifted in food preparation and works with our head mother to ensure our families have the proper nutrition they need to grow strong and healthy.
Birhanu keeps our Ethiopian finances in order on a daily basis but he doesn’t stop there. You will find Birhanu meeting the needs of our program however he can whether that means moving furniture or stoking a fire.
