For many of us, turning 18 represents a new season of freedom and independence, an opportunity to step out into the world on your own with confidence, knowing you can always come back home when you need to. But for a child in an orphanage, turning 18 means you are out on your own with no support system to help you navigate new situations and no safe place to go when things get tough.

At Selamta, no child ages out. As soon as a child joins a Selamta family, they immediately inherit a lifelong network of support comprised of their family members and Selamta’s wrap around team, forever.

A family they can always come home to through life’s highs and lows

Career guidance, networking, and small business loans

Parenting support, family counseling, and life skills trainings

Growing up surrounded by a loving family and a stable network of support, these children have the ability to dream and plan for their future. They have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education or vocational school with a collection of caring adults to guide and encourage them along the way.

When a young adult is ready, regardless of age, they enter Selamta’s Pre-Launch Program. During this time of transition, as financial support decreases, we continue to walk with them in relationship as they manage the complexities of living life on their own.

Even as these young adults live independently and support themselves financially, they will always have a safe place to come back to. Whether it’s their family home to share a meal and do laundry at, or the Community Center to receive wrap-around care from our team, they have a lifelong network of support.

“I have a good relationship with the Selamta team. They have a great impact on my personal life. They always consult with me when I need help and advocate for me. They treat me as family.”
